I recall this small office right at the entrance to the Civil Engineering building labeled 'CTS'. A window to this office faced the hallway, and occasionally I saw someone working there. I remember thinking what a lonely looking undertaking. I learned later this was Dick Braun!
CTS, in its essence, is helping people go from where they are to the next stage... helping people do better and more is pretty noble, and it was fun to be part of that.
CTS and University of Minnesota research have been by my side over the last 20 years in my second career as a transportation professional. When I have the chance, I enjoy serving in the role of an innovator and changemaker—solving problems and improving processes. CTS helps me do that.
Looking back, I’ve found that the connections you make throughout your career are often more valuable than the technical knowledge you gain: CTS is unique in that it supports both. CTS creates space for meaningful relationships and strong research, and that combination has had a lasting impact on my career.
I’ve been at Metro Transit for the past 20 years as we’ve grown our region’s METRO network, invested in technology like a modern fare system, and expanded our visible presence on the system ... CTS has been an incredible research partner and leader as we’ve sought to understand the impact of transit investment for our region and improve the customer experience.
