Reflections on CTS at 40: Robin Hutcheson
I didn't know many people when I first moved to Minnesota to become the Public Works Director for the City of Minneapolis. The strongest network I found was through the Center for Transportation Studies.
Here, I met researchers highly engaged in the work of urban transportation, fellow public works professionals, international and national transportation experts, and the amazing staff of the Center for Transportation Studies.
It really solidified my network. When I came back after being in Washington for a few years, I became a fellow — which meant I had the privilege of advising the Center for Transportation Studies on their year of freight, an often underappreciated part of our transportation world.
It was great work and a great partnership. I really enjoyed diving deeper into what we know about freight, and how we can lift it up.
I am thrilled to be back on the executive committee as the chair of the Metropolitan Council, because I know the value of CTS. I know that for the last 40 years, CTS has been a powerhouse for research, engagement, and convening.
So, congratulations to everyone who has been a part of CTS's success over the last 40 years. I'm looking forward to the next 40!
