The goal of the research program is to develop and deliver (in four phases ? the first of which is described in the current work plan) a high performance, flexible, cost-effective snowplow simulator(s) to support snowplow operator training. Development will occur incrementally in cooperation with MnDOT personnel. Final deliverables include both a large scale fixed-position simulator as well as a portable simulator. The principle implementation will be driver training and education. The simulator(s) shall be constructed with sufficient flexibility to support secondary implementation of research, education, public outreach and other uses as needed. The specific goal of Phase I is to engage in rapid, low-cost development of a prototype simulator that demonstrates the essential features of a final snowplow simulator. Implementation of Phase II, Phase III, and Phase IV work is contingent upon the acceptability of Phase I deliverables and the provision of additional funding for each phase.
