Project summary:
The goal of this research is to evaluate cost-effective, rapidly deployable, and scalable solutions for designing school
speed zones across Minnesota, using the Duluth Public School District as a case study. The project aims to:
1. Enhance student safety.
2. Reduce traffic-related injuries near schools.
3. Increase walking and biking among students through the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program.
The study will leverage the Duluth Public School District?s diverse geography?rural, suburban, and urban?to assess a
range of safety strategies under Minnesota?s seasonal conditions. By engaging multidisciplinary stakeholders, the project
will ensure solutions are practical and inclusive.
