Mn/DOT Master Level Project Manager Development Pilot Program

Principal Investigator(s):

Jim Grothaus, Former Sr Dir, Tech Assist, Center for Transportation Studies

Project summary:

For more than 15 years, the Mn/DOT Office of Technical Support has offered excellent project management training programs. An initial Advanced Skills for Project Managers Class Series was launched in 2004 with favorable results. The Master Level Project Manager Training Program builds on the success of the former advanced level program and offers more in-depth training that addresses the current and future needs of experienced level Mn/DOT project managers. Whereas the former Advanced Skills for Project Managers class took place over the course of three days, the expanded master level series will last eleven days in total. The current direction of Mn/DOT, as an engineering organization, is that of becoming a Program Management Organization, which requires an increased emphasis on and investment in developing project managers. The master level program is a viable means to meet this evolving organizational need.
