Minnesota Airport Technical Assistant Program

Principal Investigator(s):

Jim Grothaus, Former Sr Dir, Tech Assist, Center for Transportation Studies

Project summary:

Airport personnel, especially from small airports, face many challenges in acquiring the knowledge and skills they need to incorporate new technology, materials, and techniques into the jobs they perform. New employees are faced with the additional challenge of learning their job duties without the benefit of coaching or on-the-job guidance. An educational and outreach program, focused on issues related to airport management, operation, and maintenance, will be developed for delivery to a broad spectrum of airport & local agency personnel and officials. The primary audience for the educational and outreach program are those personnel working directly for Minnesota's smaller airports. Assessments will be conducted in order to determine education, information outreach, and assistance needs as well as identify the best methods by which to deliver the program. Outreach and communication tools would be developed in order to provide n opportunity to relate topics of interest, new research results, and exchange of best practices. Based on the needs identified, educational and information outreach initiatives will be developed and delivered.
