Manik Barman is a professor of civil engineering at the University of Minnesota Duluth and currently serves as the director of graduate studies for the civil engineering program. He earned his PhD in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 2014 and his master’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 2004. Before joining UMD in 2015, Barman worked as a senior research fellow at the University of Oklahoma.

His research focuses on pavement materials, design, maintenance, and rehabilitation, with an emphasis on improving performance, durability, and sustainability of transportation infrastructure. He teaches courses on infrastructure materials and pavement engineering, as well as professional skills for graduate students. Barman is actively involved in professional organizations such as ASCE, TRB, ACI, ISCP, and NRRA. He serves on the TRB Standing Committee on Concrete Pavement Materials and is a member of the board of directors of the International Society for Concrete Pavements. He also served as director of the technical program and editor for the 13th International Conference on Concrete Pavements held in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In addition to his research and service contributions, Barman is a dedicated educator and a regular peer reviewer for multiple scholarly journals in his field.
