Project summary:

Saving lives and preventing serious injuries for the users of Minnesota's transportation system is a major focus of the Minnesota Departments of Transportation (MnDOT), Public Safety (DPS), and Health (MDH); the United States Department of Transportation; the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA); the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA); the Center for Transportation Studies (CTS); and a number of private sector foundations, nonprofits, and advocacy groups. In 2003 the Toward Zero Deaths (TZD) program was formed to coordinate and focus traffic safety initiatives in Minnesota. At the request of MnDOT and the Office of Traffic Safety within DPS, CTS provides ongoing administrative support and coordination for the TZD program.
