Statewide GIS Parcel Map Inventory

Principal Investigator(s):

William Craig, Former Associate Director, Urban & Regional Affairs

Project summary:

Minnesota is struggling to modernize its land records, particularly to create digital parcel maps that cover the state. MnDOT needs data about parcel ownership for right-of-way acquisition and maintenance, but other state agencies also work with parcel data; e.g., DNR, Agriculture, PCA, Board of Water and Soil Resources, Revenue. We have only anecdotal evidence of which counties and other local governments have this parcel data and even less idea how accurate these maps are. This project will systematically collect that information statewide, put it in a database that is accessible to all, and provide a methodology for keeping this information current.
