Shifting Global Airline Service and the Local Community

Principal Investigator(s):

John Adams, Former Professor and Chair, Geography

Project summary:

Domestic deregulation of the U.S. airline industry served as a catalyst for international service agreement liberalization and global industry restructuring. The worldwide system continues to be in a constant state of turmoil. This study will: relate international service agreement trends to gateway city service at MSP and the U.S.; investigate the value of international and domestic service to the regional economy; analyze current and potential linkages between Minneapolis/St. Paul and competing hubs in the Midwest to global regions found to have the strongest service potential; and evaluate possible future roles for MSP in the changing global network.
