Measurement of Moisture in Aggregate Stock Piles

Principal Investigator(s):

Co-Investigators:

  • David Newcomb, Former University Researcher, Civil, Environmental and Geo-Engineering

Project summary:

The objective of this proposal is to develop a practical device for the field measurement of moisture in aggregate stockpiles at hot mix asphalt plants. Based on moisture measurements and fluctuations in the aggregate feed of hot mix plants strategies for controlling the proportions of aggregate in the mix will be established. The central core of the work will involve the identification, fabrication, testing and calibration of candidate moisture measuring devices. This work will involve both a laboratory and a field component.
