FY11 Mn/DOT Cost Estimation and Cost Management Training (CE/CM)

Principal Investigator(s):

Jim Grothaus, Former Sr Dir, Tech Assist, Center for Transportation Studies

Project summary:

The purpose of this project is to deliver two interactive workshops on cost estimation/cost management for transportation professionals. These workshop courses will be based on the 13 courses delivered in FY2010. The project will develop course materials and an outline, modifying the previous year?s exercises from a three-day to a two-day course format.

The workshops will admit up to 30 attendees. The primary audience for the training sessions will be managers, designers, transportation specialists, planners, and estimators from MnDOT, as well as other transportation professionals. Participant materials will be prepared for use during the forum. Together, the workshop, supporting materials, and training on various tools will enhance the key principles of MnDOT's present highway project development, cost estimation, and cost management processes.

Workshop participants will be encouraged to share their own experiences and gain input from others, and to understand and follow newly established MnDOT Cost Estimation and Cost Management Guidelines.

This project will participate with MnDOT staff on the tool development team, which will entail providing input on cost estimation and cost management tools, review of tool content, and other support as requested.
