Co-Investigators:

  • Gina Baas, Deputy Director, Center for Transportation Studies
  • Dawn Spanhake, Associate Director, Center for Transportation Studies

Project summary:

The Center identifies critical issues in transportation and develops publicly engaged research, education, and outreach programs that: 1) create an environment for faculty, students, and practitioners from multiple disciplines to collaborate in transportation research and education efforts; and 2) provide leadership and outreach efforts to government officials, private sector representatives, and the public in the application of new knowledge and the implementation of policies, programs, and technologies that improve transportation. The Center provides services in three program areas: research, education and information/outreach. In research, the Center supports faculty and students by linking them to organizations and funding sources that want to address critical issues in transportation, by providing research coordination and management services, and by facilitating dissemination of the innovations that result from research efforts. In education, the Center works to improve degree and continuing education programs in transportation, sponsors seminars and lectures, provides awards to students, supports student employment efforts in transportation organizations, and sponsors and participates in initiatives that encourage K-12 students to explore transportation disciplines and careers. In information/outreach, the Center acts as a catalyst to identify critical issues in transportation and encourage the implementation of transportation research results through publications, information services, conferences, seminars, and active facilitation between researchers and organizations.
