Project summary:

The purpose of this project is to improve safety through effective speed reduction in certain types of work zones for motorists, highway workers, and pedestrians. The methods for this project will include: a literature review to identify aspects of the problem which have been studied and reported; identification of reasons why motorists speed; a survey of motorists including truck drivers to obtain their views about promoting work zone safety through speed reduction; an identification of devices and procedures for reducing speeds; and a description of a demonstration for Phase 2.As a result of this project we expect to identify devices and procedures for promoting speed reduction thus work zone safety which can be demonstrated and evaluated in the next phase of this project.
