2019 MnDOT Construction Career Day

Principal Investigator(s):

Gina Baas, Deputy Director, Center for Transportation Studies

Project summary:

Developing a strong workforce is key to any industry-transportation is no different. And in today's world of rapidly retiring baby-boomers, it is even more critical that skilled and diverse professionals are available to fill these gaps. However, many of today's youth, and especially youth from diverse backgrounds, are not aware of the opportunities within the transportation industry. Under the guidance of MnDOT's Office of Civil Rights, the Center for Transportation Studies (CTS) will plan and deliver a one-day event, the MnDOT Construction Career Day, designed to educate high school students about the career opportunities within the transportation construction industry. MnDOT and CTS will partner with construction trade and contractor representatives to offer an interactive, hands-on experience with the goal of attracting interested students to jobs within the industry upon graduation from high school.
