De Sota joins CTS following 12 years at the University of Minnesota's Robert J. Jones Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center, most recently in the role of assistant executive director. Prior to that, he worked as a neighborhood coordinator for the Southeast Como Improvement Association and served in a number of positions at the intersection of research, education, and outreach—including a tour with the Peace Corps in West Africa.

“James’s depth of experience partnering with a broad network of stakeholders inside and outside of the University will be a true asset to CTS and our program partners,” says Gina Baas, deputy director of CTS. “His extensive background working with community, researchers, and students and leading engagement and research projects will help expand our programming and deepen our connections.”

CTS works with faculty and research staff in over 30 departments across the University of Minnesota to address a wide range of critical transportation topics. The Program Development and Delivery team produces CTS’s events, such as conferences, symposia, and webinars, and manages stakeholder engagement and student outreach programs including Minnesota Toward Zero DeathsMinnesota Freight Advisory Committee, and National Summer Transportation Institute.

“I’m thrilled to join this talented team and excited to lend my experience, skills, and leadership to advancing the critical mission of CTS and its partners,” says De Sota.

De Sota earned a bachelor's degree in geography-urban planning and religious studies from Macalester College and lives in Arden Hills with his wife and daughter.
