Minnesota 3-D: Linking Jobs and Housing Through Development

Principal Investigator(s):

Kris Nelson, Former Program Director, CURA

Project summary:

Minnesota 3-D is a dynamic GIS-based Internet application that integrates information on labor markets, housing, and development across the Twin Cities metropolitan area into a single easy-to-use tool for economic and community development. By combining labor market origin-destination data on Minnesota jobs and workers with housing and transportation data, this tool will provide the information needed to make informed decisions about planning and community development. Partners working with the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs (CURA) at the University of Minnesota include state, regional, county and municipal governments, community revitalization and development organizations in Minneapolis and St. Paul as well as community development corporations. The M3D application will increase partners' capacity to plan and develop housing and economic development programs to narrow the growing spatial mismatch between housing and employment in the Twin Cities region.
