Community Transportation Outreach and Implementation for Hennepin County, 2007-08

Principal Investigator(s):

Gina Baas, Deputy Director, Center for Transportation Studies

Project summary:

Since 2000, CTS has worked with local partners on community-based transportation issues. Community-based transportation is defined as transportation for people who because of age, disability, low income, or other reasons, are not able to drive automobiles nor access the mainline bus system, and thus are unable to participate in desired activities to the same extent or with the same ease as others. During this time, significant progress has been made in identifying problems and potential solutions for agencies that provide transportation and other services to disadvantaged populations. A continued dialogue between agencies and stakeholders is required to implement the results of previous research efforts and bring about a framework for action. In this project, CTS built on previous work by CTS and the State and Local Policy Program (SLPP) of the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs. The project contained elements of outreach, research, and training on the topic of community-based transportation.
