The Center for Transportation Studies was one of some 20 organizations that assembled at the Minnesota State Capitol for the inaugural MN Automated Vehicle Day on April 14.
Hosted by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) in partnership with Stantec and PAVE, the event provided hundreds of attendees an opportunity to learn more about automated vehicles (AVs), see and experience AV technology, and network with public-sector and industry leaders.
CTS staff exhibited at the event, engaging with visitors about the Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV) Camp for high schoolers and showcasing the MnCAV Ecosystem research vehicle. "This was a fantastic opportunity to connect with legislators to discuss University research on AVs and our CAV Camp," said CTS deputy director Gina Baas. "Building this foundation of education and awareness is key to fueling meaningful discussions that will shape the future of automated technology in Minnesota."
At the exhibit booth, CTS screened this new video which shows the self-driving minivan in action using a real-time kinematic connected Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)—a low-cost alternative to lidar—to precisely navigate the twists and turns of the MnROAD test facility as well as icy gravel roads.
