CTS is pleased to welcome Robin Hutcheson as a senior fellow. Over the course of the next year, Hutcheson will apply her knowledge and experience to research projects that expand our understanding of the interrelationships within transportation systems and will support the freight focus of CTS in 2025.
Following four and a half years serving as public works director for the City of Minneapolis, Hutcheson served in senior leadership positions in the US Department of Transportation during the Biden administration. As the senate-confirmed administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Hutcheson led a research and regulatory agency of more than 1,200 people to improve roadway safety and support a stronger supply chain. As the deputy assistant secretary for safety policy, she led the development of the National Roadway Safety Strategy and was a key contributor to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
“We’re thrilled to have Robin join CTS as senior fellow, particularly as we focus throughout 2025 on the topic of freight,” says director Kyle Shelton. “We very much look forward to collaborating with her on work at the center of supply chain, technological transformation, roadway safety, cities, and climate.”
Hutcheson is the principal of Hutcheson Advisory LLC, where she advises public- and private-sector clients on complex transportation systems and regulations. Her experience also includes serving as director of transportation for the City of Salt Lake City, president of the board of directors of the National Association of City Transportation Officials, and founding board member of the Open Mobility Foundation. In addition, she has a long history as a private-sector transportation consultant at the local, national, and international levels.
