About the Event

E-commerce is booming as consumers increasingly shop online for convenience, price, and availability to meet their needs. In fact, new trends and emerging technologies are driving consumer expectations wild with shortened, lower-cost, more flexible delivery options. At the 2017 symposium, keynote speaker David Wangler discussed how this on-demand economy is revolutionizing the movement of freight from one end of the supply chain to the other.

Wangler, president of TMW Systems, offered suggestions for how the freight industry can use technology to adapt and thrive in an extremely competitive environment. His presentation also explored the opportunities and challenges ahead, including vehicle-to-vehicle communications, autonomous vehicles, and mobile apps to improve local delivery operations and advanced routing and scheduling systems that are critical for success in our on-demand world.

In addition, one panel showcased Duluth's new intermodal service, a partnership between Canadian National Railway (CN) and Duluth Cargo Connect. A second panel examined the freight-related implications of a transportation system shared by commuters and commerce.
