Summer Camp Worker (Temporary)

This summer, CTS will be hosting two summer camps. The National Transportation Summer Institute will host 30 students entering grades 7-9 on the U of M campus for a two-week camp introducing them to topics and careers in the transportation industry. Students will engage in academic curriculum, work on a group project, and go on several field trips throughout the Twin Cities. The CAV Career Pathways Camp will host 20 students entering grades 10-12 on campus for a one-week camp introducing them to careers in the field of connected and automated vehicles.

We are looking for one additional person to join our team on a temporary basis. The selected candidate will join CTS staff in the delivery of the two camps.

Compensation will be provided at $18.00 per hour.

Work Hours

Up to full time at 40 hours per week. The selected candidate must be available weekdays Monday, July 8 through Friday, August 16, and will need to be onsite from 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. on work days.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with printing and packing of camp materials.
  • Assisting in the delivery of camp activities. 
  • Supervising students throughout camp. 
  • Identifying and responding to camper behavior issues; reporting any behavior issues to the camp coordinator or director. 
  • Assisting in maintaining accurate program records, including things such as daily attendance, checking students into and out of camp, and student evaluations. 
  • Assisting in set-up and clean-up of events, lunches, and other camp-related activities, including transporting supplies. 
  • Knowing, enforcing, and following all safety and emergency guidelines associated with the camp.

Qualifications

Required

  • At least 18 years old with a high school diploma/GED or equivalent 
  • Some experience working with youth, preferably in a leadership or educational setting
  • Energetic and outgoing demeanor when hosting events 
  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written
  • Ability to prioritize and complete work assignments from multiple staff
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, good organization and prioritization
  • A desire to work in a fast-paced and multi-tasking environment
  • A desire to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to problem-solve, take initiative and to be proactive
  • Excellent customer service skills; a professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check (required by University policy for youth programs)

Preferred

  • Experience with middle or high school aged students, particularly in a summer camp setting

Communications Student Worker

This is an excellent opportunity for a self-starting student pursuing a degree in communications, journalism, English, or a related field to gain professional experience, develop a portfolio, and build a network of communications and transportation professionals.

Compensation will be provided at $15-$15.75 per hour (depending on year in school).

Work Schedule

Up to 20 hours per week during academic terms; up to 40 hours per week during summer and breaks. Schedule is flexible—a minimum hourly commitment will be determined by agreement between the student and their supervisor. Work location will be on-site at CTS offices.

We are seeking to hire as soon as possible for a position lasting through summer, with the possibility of extending into fall semester 2024.

Responsibilities

Assist the CTS Communications team with various projects based on the skills and interest of the candidate to include writing and editing; photography and videography; graphic design and production; working with content on websites, email newsletters and announcements, and social media; cataloging and organizing materials; developing presentations; and other tasks as assigned. 

Qualifications

Required

  • A currently registered student at the University of Minnesota, eligible for student employment
  • Must maintain the minimum number of UMN required credits for student employment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Working familiarity with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Writing and/or design or video samples will be requested

Preferred

  • High degree of familiarity with Google Workspace and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Working familiarity with Drupal (or other Content Management Systems) and MarketingCloud (or other email marketing platforms)
  • Interest in the transportation field
