Carissa Schively Slotterback’s research focuses on public involvement and decision-making in environmental, land use, and transportation planning processes. She is specifically interested in issues of impact analysis, plan implementation, and sustainability. She is associate professor and director of the Urban and Regional Planning program in the Humphrey School of Public Affairs and is a resident fellow in the Institute on the Environment at the University of Minnesota. She directs the Resilient Communities Project, an initiative focused on building university–community partnerships around sustainability.  

Schively Slotterback has faculty appointments in the landscape architecture, conservation biology, and natural resources science and management.  Her work has been funded by a variety of sources, such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Science Foundation, American Institute of Architects, Minnesota Department of Transportation, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and the McKnight Foundation.  In addition to her academic work, she has experience as a planner in the public and private sectors and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners. Schively Slotterback holds a Ph.D. in urban and regional planning from Florida State University and a Master of City and Regional Planning degree from Clemson University.
