Catherine French's research interests are related to the behavior of reinforced and prestressed concrete structural systems. She is interested in the durability and application of new materials to the infrastructure. In the area of earthquake engineering her interests relate to system performance, including development of new details, retrofitting methods, and experimental techniques. She is principal investigator at the Multi-Axial Subassemblage Testing System (MAST) lab, a new seismic testing facility scheduled to open in 2004.

French received her B.S.C.E. from the University of Minnesota in 1979. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1980 and 1984, respectively. She has been a member of the faculty of the University of Minnesota since 1984.
