Development of Accessibility Measures
Principal Investigator:
David Levinson, Department of Civil
Engineering
Research Component:
Measuring accessibility
Sponsor:
Minnesota Department of Transportation
Status:
Complete
Project Summary:
The goal of this research is to develop a set of performance
measurements that can be used to analyze historic land use and travel
time data, including data on the freeway networks, surface streets,
transit systems, and non-motorized travel, in order to understand accessibility:
the relative ability to reach destinations on a transportation network.
These measures can be used in a variety of operational planning and
public involvement activities of transportation agencies to ascertain
how investments, transportation strategies and land use policies affect
the performance of the transportation-land use system. This research
includes working with staff of the Minnesota Department of Transportation
(Mn/DOT) to define possible performance measures, and extends previous
research.
