Rolling Out Measures of Non-Motorized Accessibility: What Can We Now Say?

Tuesday, November 25, 2008
3:00 p.m.–4:30 p.m. CST*

Mechanical Engineering Building, Room 1130
111 Church Street SE, Minneapolis
University of Minnesota Twin Cities - East Bank

This presentation articulates a value for detailed measures of accessibility—particularly non-motorized accessibility—as a compelling way to better understand the performance of land use-transportation systems. Krizek will discuss the need for such measures and roll out preliminary measures of non-motorized accessibility for the Twin Cities Region from 1995–2005. He also will demonstrate how regional measures can and should be sensitive enough to detect the onset of significant new facilities or development projects. Finally, Krizek will describe how this information can be used by planners, engineers, and others to make more sound policy decisions.
