Gina Baas, Assistant Director, Center for Transportation Studies
On August 10, 2005, President Bush signed into law the new surface transportation legislation, SAFETEA-LU. This legislation established the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission. This commission was established to develop Congressional recommendations for a future national transportation policy. The commission has been holding field hearings around the country to gather input for its recommendations. Mn/DOT and the Center for Transportation Studies submitted a proposal to the US Department of Transportation to host the hearing and Minnesota was selected as a host site through a competitive process. The hearing will be held in Minnesota on April 18-19. Mn/DOT is contracting with the Center for Transportation Studies to host and deliver the two-day field hearing.
