Pedestrian Control at Intersections - Phase II

Project Summary:

Phase II This proposal addresses several issues of pedestrian control at intersections. We propose the use of CCD cameras for pedestrian detection since CCD cameras are able not only to detect a pedestrian but simultaneously track him/her in real-time (tracking can provide significant time-dependent information). The time-dependent information will help us design adaptable pedestrian phases. We plan to compare the CCD cameras with microwave sensors (TC26 and TC30) and roadway pedestrian detectors. Our work will include the development of a prototype and extensive testing under various weather conditions will be conducted.
