Assessment of Centerline Rumble Strips in Minnesota

Principal Investigator:

Keith Knapp, Research Manager, PhD, Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs

Project Summary:

This study updates a centerline rumble strip evaluation completed by University of Minnesota researchers for the Minnesota Department of Transportation in 2006. The focus of this project is on documenting a more complete literature review on the subject and on supplementing the crash data that was summarized in the 2006 research. This project also includes a small survey of the use, installation, and maintenance policies and practices of "northern-state" DOTs that are using centerline rumbles strips. The findings of this project will be used by Mn/DOT in its analysis of centerline rumble strip policies for Minnesota.
