"Tomorrow's Transportation: A Quantum Leap in Knowledge"

CTS Winter Luncheon · March 1, 2001

Today's transportation challenges—from congestion to global warming and finance—can seem as intimidating as reaching the moon did in 1960.

A Federal Transportation Advisory Group recently completed a set of recommendations for the future of transportation through 2050 for consideration by the Bush administration. C. Michael Walton served on this working group, which was established jointly by the secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) and the administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He will discuss these recommendations in a speech titled "Tomorrow's Transportation: A Quantum Leap in Knowledge," at the Center's winter luncheon on March 1.

Walton is the Ernest H. Cockrell Centennial Chair in Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Texas at Austin. In addition, he holds a joint academic appointment in the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs. Prior to joining the faculty in 1971, he served in the Office of the Secretary of U.S. DOT and with the North Carolina State Highway Commission. He holds master's and doctoral degrees from North Carolina State University in Civil Engineering.
