As a program coordinator for the Center for Transportation Studies, Joe Barbeau coordinates Mn/DOT and ITS Institute report publication. He works closely with the CTS Research Councils to coordinate meetings and educational seminars. He is also responsible for helping coordinate special studies, informing faculty of funding opportunities, helping CTS attract funding, and contributing to the design and implementation of administrative systems to deliver CTS programs.
Prior to joining the University of Minnesota, Barbeau was an assistant city planner at the City of Winona, MN, where he provided zoning administration and assisted with the city’s Comprehensive Plan update. He has also served as a transportation planner for Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) in Bristol, CT, and Peoria, IL, where he authored plans in transit and greenways and trails. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master of arts degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Iowa.
Barbeau is a member of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Planning Association.
