Derek Tompkins is associate director of the Pavement Research Institute, a joint program of the Department of Civil Engineering and CTS.
As a Ph.D. candidate advised by civil engineering professor Lev Khazanovich, Tompkins used computer modeling techniques to study early-age effects in concrete slabs; other research projects have included a review and synthesis of the first ten years of the MnROAD pavement research program and an analysis of dowel performance in jointed concrete pavements using the MinneALF accelerated pavement testing platform.
