Shankwitz's CTS research projects
Craig Shankwitz' research interests include man-machine interaction, vehicle-driver interfaces, sensors, human in the loop control systems, and non-linear vehicle dynamic problems in general. He directs the ITS Institute's Intelligent Vehicles Program. He has been the project manager for the Minnesota portion of the IVI Specialty Vehicle Generation Zero Field Operational Test, and the Technical Director for the project in its entirety. He is also the technical director and project manager of the ITS Institute's Bus Rapid Transit Lane Assist Technology Systems. He has also led multi-disciplinary projects awarded to the ITS Institute, including the recently awarded Intersection Decision Support project funded by the FHWA and Mn/DOT.
Shankwitz received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1992 in the area of control theory. Prior to his current position, he was a research fellow in the mechanical engineering department, and later worked as a control engineer responsible for the motion control of the National Advanced Driving Simulator (NADS) at the University of Iowa.
