Rajesh Rajamani’s research interests include vehicle dynamics and control, intelligent transportation systems, microsensors and control system design.  His current research activities in transportation include the development of a novel narrow tilt-controlled commuter vehicle, development of systems for real-time estimation of tire-road friction coefficient on highway vehicles, development of battery-less wireless traffic sensors and development of electronic stability control systems.

Dr. Rajamani received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California at Berkeley in 1991 and 1993 respectively and his B.Tech degree from the Indian Institute of Technology at Madras in 1989.   After obtaining his Ph.D., Dr. Rajamani spent five years working as a research engineer, first at United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) and then at California PATH, before joining the University of Minnesota.  Dr. Rajamani has authored a textbook on vehicle dynamics and control as well as more than ninety refereed publications.  He has won several awards including the CAREER award from the National Science Foundation, the 2007 O. Hugo Schuck Award, the 2001 Outstanding Paper award from the journal IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology and the Outstanding Achievement of the Year award from United Technologies Research Center.
