Hourdos'
CTS research projects
John Hourdos' research focuses on microscopic simulation, traffic model calibration, incident detection and prevention. Recently, in collaboration with the ITS Institute he designed, assembled, and deployed an array of advanced Traffic Detection and Surveillance Stations in the highest freeway accident area in the Twin Cities. He also played a leading role in the recent evaluation of the Minnesota Zone Ramp Metering algorithm, research that received international attention within the transportation research community.
Hourdos received his Civil Engineering undergraduate degree from the University of Patras, Greece, with a focus on Geodetic Engineering, and a Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota.
