Gulliver's CTS research projects

John Gulliver’s major research interests are environmental fluid mechanics, chemical transport and fate in environmental systems, and flow and mass transport at hydraulic structures. His current research projects explore factors affecting runoff and groundwater systems, including the mitigation of groundwater and sediment pollution, the development of lake and wastewater aerators, the prediction of volatile toxic compound transfer from lakes and oceans, and the prediction of steam reaeration. Specific research projects include the development of new technology for stormwater treatment and assessment of field performance of stormwater treatment practices.  He was co-editor with Dr. Jim Anderson of the on-line manual, “Assessment of Stormwater Best Management Practices.”

Gulliver received a Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of California, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota. He joined the University of Minnesota as a research associate in 1980, and subsequently held faculty positions in the Department of Civil Engineering, where he served as department head for nearly a decade. A registered professional civil engineer, Gulliver has published four books and more than 100 journal articles. His numerous honors include twice receiving the Rickey Medal from the American Society of Civil Engineers.
