Yingling Fan’s research focuses on social and health aspects of land use and transportation planning. Her research combines ecological and behavioral analyses within a quantitative framework as a means of addressing urban sustainability challenges.

Fan holds a Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelors degree in Transportation Engineering from Southeast University, Nanjing, China. Her work has been published in various transportation research journals including Transportation Research Part F, Transportation Research Record, ASCE Journal of Transportation Engineering, and Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems. One of her papers received the 2008 Transportation Research Board Pedestrian Committee Best Paper Award.
