Mike Darter has been involved in pavement engineering throughout his career and is an internationally recognized authority in highway infrastructure. He has conducted many national and state research and consulting projects in pavement design, evaluation, performance, rehabilitation, and management. He was a member of the national consulting team that produced the 1986 AASHTO Design Guide, and served as principal investigator on the development of the 1993 AASHTO Overlay Design Procedures.
In addition to leading the Pavement Research Institute, Darter holds a 25% appointment in the University of Minnesota’s Department of Civil Engineering and continues to work as principal engineer with Applied Research Associates, Inc. Before coming to Minnesota, Darter was Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois.
