Ryan's CTS research projects
Barry Ryan's current focus on road funding policy reflects a broader interest in public service delivery, state and local taxes, and intergovernmental fiscal relations. He has worked with federal, state, and local government agencies on a variety of issues including labor markets, land values, biotechnology, and farm energy use. His work on the CTS-coordinated Transportation and Regional Growth Study has explored transportation financing alternatives, strategies for addressing congestion and urban sprawl, and the future development pattern of the Twin Cities area.
Ryan earned his B.S. in agricultural marketing and M.S. in public finance from the Department of Applied Economics. He sees his current role as "to apply economic principles to public policy questions, and provide relevant empirical information that improves the public debate and policy outcome."
