13th Annual Freight and Logistics Symposium
December 4, 2009
Views of the System After Economic Recovery
Severe economic recessions don't happen often.
When the recovery begins in earnest, the business
landscape could look quite different. The core
challenges for the freight transportation, logistics,
and manufacturing industries will come blazing
back. These challenges include modal capacity,
energy, the environment, and sourcing strategies and
all need to be addressed to manage the transportation-related
aspects of economic recovery. At this year's
symposium, representatives from the business
community, academia, and the public sector will
discuss trends and what to expect when business
picks up again as well as the infrastructure, policy,
and practice changes needed with economic
recovery. Two panel presentations will focus on a
big-picture perspective as well as implications for
Minnesota, a look at the possible post-recovery
freight system, the role of the public, lessons
learned from other successful inland ports, and how
federal policy and funding could affect the freight
system once the economy begins to recover.
