Fundamentals of Materials Management
This course provides a basic knowledge of the concepts of materials
management. Students will gain an understanding of the problems
associated with materials flow in a business enterprise and the
organizational and analytical tools available for their solution.
(Note: This is the first required course for full-time students
enrolled in the Materials Planning and Control Technician program.
It also is recommended as a first course for those attending part
time.) This is a self-paced, individualized course. After the
first class, students set their own attendance and study schedule.
Inventory Management-Item Level Concepts
Topics include the functions, types and costs of inventories;
ABC analysis; order point; EOQ formula; cycle count techniques;
raw inventory control; minima/maxima; inventory management plans;
item level planning and control; physical storage and handling;
distribution; performance evaluation; and LIFO/FIFO. This is a
self-paced, individualized course. After the first class session,
you will set your own attendance and study schedule.
Just-in-Time
This course covers the four critical aspects of the Just-in-Time
(JIT) system: waste reduction, productivity, products of perfect
quality and involvement of all workers at all levels. This is
a self-paced, individualized course. After the first class session,
you will set your own attendance and study schedule.
Material and Capacity Requirements Planning
This course covers the principles, concepts and other aspects
of materials requirements planning and capacity requirements planning.
The interrelationship between these key functions in the organizational
materials control system will be emphasized. Topics include systems
design and specifications, time planning, lot sizing, safety stock,
priority planning, measurement of capacity, resource requirements
planning, scheduling practices and capacity control. This is a
self-paced, individualized course. After the first class session,
you will set your own attendance and study schedule.
Master Planning
The principles and concepts of master planning will be emphasized.
Topics include master schedules, production planning, master production
scheduling policies and procedures, performance measurement, forecasting,
priority planning, made to order/made to stock approaches, process
inventory and types of scheduling. This is a self-paced, individualized
course. After the first class session, you will set your own attendance
and study schedule.
Fundamentals of Purchasing
This course presents the fundamentals of the purchasing function
for those new to purchasing, those in other departments who need
to understand these concepts, or experienced professionals eager
to update and enhance their skills. This is a self-paced, independent
study course. After the first class session, students set their
own attendance and study schedule.
Operations Management in Manufacturing
Introduction to three critical areas of manufacturing--process
analysis, materials management and quality management--are the
foundation for the 12 units that comprise this self-paced, introductory
course. Among the topics covered are operations strategy, new
product design, key performance measures, aggregate planning,
and quality systems. This is an excellent first course for anyone
planning to take additional coursework in materials planning and
control, industrial engineering or purchasing.
