Transportation Management and Introduction to Logistics Introduction to basic transportation concepts and the relevance of transportation in our economy. Characteristics of each mode of transportation including rail, highway, carrier pricing, pipelines, air and water will be discussed and evaluated. 3C/3/0/0
Distribution Management
Designed to clarify and define the role of warehousing in today's
economy. Discussion includes inventory control, materials handling
equipment, just-in-time, productivity and quality control. This
course will also include the primary role that logistics plays.

Business Logistics and Supply Chain Management
Logistics management provides for training in the areas of efficient
administration and control of logistics subparts (transportation,
inventory, packaging, warehousing, and materials handling as well
as customer service) and the eventual integration into a logistics
system. (Prerequisite: DSTM 1410). 4C/4/0/0
Purchasing Principles and Applications
Covers how and why the purchasing function has far reaching effects
on a company's bottom line, in other words the profit or loss.
It is a dynamic business function and is important in saving costs
in large dollar expenditures. The course also covers the broad
overview of the objectives of purchasing, its authority, responsibility,
management function, and its expectations. Purchasing is one of
the departments within a company that has to deal with various
departments such as: Production, Engineering, Marketing, Sales,
Logistics, Stores, Inventory Control, Transportation, Quality
Assurance, and Finance. Its biggest objective is to buy the right
materials, of the right quality, in the right quantity, at the
right time, at the right price, from the right source.
Distribution Management Transportation Internship
A cooperative work-study program between St. Paul Technical College
Freight Transportation Program and a business facility to allow
the student an employment-like experience. Job duties must reflect
program goals.
Distribution Management Transportation Special Projects
The intent of this course is to allow flexibility in providing
learning experiences to meet a special need of the student, the
major program, and the College.
Introduction to International Trade
Introduces the student to the general field of world trade. Study
will cover foreign investments, cultural differences, impact of
trade agreements, international payments, logistics, taxation
and personnel issues. This course provides the foundation for

Export Shipping & Documentation
Introduces students to the flow of merchandise in an international
trade transaction using various modes of transportation, routing,
paperwork, regulations and terms. The principle documents that
must be prepared for shipments will be analyzed and created. Information
will include the purpose of each document, its function, common
problems in preparing and processing this type of document. Discussion
will include reviewing documents from the banker, freight forwarder
and shipper perspective. Students will prepare and examine these
documents.
