Introduction to Operations Management
This course surveys the concepts and practices of managing the operations of service, manufacturing and other organizations. Special emphasis is placed on contemporary subjects and emergence of quality/cost as the dominant issue in managing operations. Forecasting, inventory control, customer service, process analysis, quality, total quality management, service delivery systems, diverse workforce, facilities and process are some of the topics included.

Operations Management for Services and Manufacturing
This course focuses on information development and use for management decision making. It includes topics such as problem formulation, recognizing and meeting manager's information needs, data sources and data gathering methods, data quality, descriptive data analysis techniques, time series analysis and cross-sectional analysis. The class emphasizes the application of these techniques to problem formulation and managerial problem solving, with particular attention to critical thinking skills.

International Purchasing
Global competition makes it increasingly important for American firms to contract with foreign companies to establish efficient and reliable sources of industrial materials and supplies. Topics covered include: starting a global buying program; dealing with foreign cultures, business practices, monetary systems and related legalities; writing international purchase orders; controlling global logistics costs; and U.S. programs designed to benefit importing buyers. Prerequisites: MKTG 450 Purchasing Management or equivalent with instructor's consent. This course also offered online.

Logistics/Supply Chain Managment
This course examines those activities involved in planning, implementing, and controlling the flows of product/services from points of origin to points of consumption. Topics include enterprise resource planning, forecasting, inventory management, transportation modes, services and rates, warehousing services, customer services, and performance measurement. Analysis of these activities is further undertaken to include information technology systems to support management decision-making. Applications of IT to purchasing, B2B exchanges, barcoding, enterprise resource planning, equipment maintenance systems, transportation, and shipping management. Special emphasis is placed on building business analysis skills to assess the cost-benefits of IT projects to support logisitics opperations.

Current Trends and Issues in Purchasing/Logistics Management
This course examines trends and issues, which are most likely to influence policy making and strategy designs for efficient and effective purchasing management. Topics addressed include changing information technologies affecting efficiency in purchasing; changing technologies in transportation and storage; influences of the changing make-up of the work force; purchasing' s role in quality management; strategic alliances with suppliers; multinational sourcing; and legislative initiatives. Seminars are led by experienced purchasing management executives. This course also offered online.

Materials Management
This course focuses on activities concerned with materials and inventory requirements, from receiving the materials to their introduction into the manufacturing processes. Topics discussed include objectives and organization for materials management, total quality management, materials requirement planning, traffic management, warehousing, automated inventory control systems, and legal and ethical considerations in materials management. This course also offered online.

Fundamentals of Purchasing Management
This course acquaints students wishing to explore career opportunities in professional purchasing. It explains the functions of the professional purchasing manager, the contributions of purchasing to organizational goals, purchasing systems and controls, supplier selection procedures, and performance evaluation of purchasing personnel.

Purchasing Management
This course examines the activities undertaken by purchasing personnel to achieve the objectives of their organization. The topics covered include value analysis, vendor analysis and certification, negotiations and contracting, logistics and inventory control, and the legal and ethical considerations in professional purchasing. These topics are relevant for organizations in the public and non-profit sectors of the economy as well as to private-sector organizations.
