Overview

Prepare for your transportation career

Meeting today's transportation challenges requires specific technical knowledge and an appreciation of the broader social, political, and technological contexts. To help prepare professionals for leadership in this dynamic field, the Center for Transportation Studies at the University of Minnesota has created a Graduate Certificate in Transportation Studies.

The Graduate Certificate in Transportation Studies is designed to meet the needs of professionals who want to expand their skills as well as students pursuing a graduate degree who wish to build on their degree program with an additional transportation credential. This interdisciplinary program is structured around a group of required core courses as well as elective coursework in transportation planning and engineering, political and social analysis of transportation issues, and transportation management and logistics. Each participant in the certificate program works with a program faculty advisor to develop a personalized curriculum, choosing from the many transportation-related courses offered in departments across the University.

Why choose the Graduate Certificate?

Options for professionals

The graduate certificate program is structured with the needs of professionals in mind. You can develop a program of study tailored to your interests, with courses from many University of Minnesota departments. You have the option of broadening your expertise in new areas, or focusing on a specific subject. And if you later decide to pursue a graduate degree, graduate credits earned through the certificate program may be applied to a degree program.

Beyond the diploma

The University of Minnesota is a great place to get a graduate degree. The graduate certificate program gives you the opportunity to go beyond your major and earn a specialized credential for your knowledge of transportation-related principles.

An organizational advantage

In today's competitive environment, it's better to develop your organization from within than to look outside for new capabilities. The graduate certificate program offers employers a unique opportunity to develop their workforce and increase their capability to take on the demanding transportation projects of today and tomorrow. Employers can work with the certificate program administration to select focused elective coursework to meet particular workforce development needs and maximize return on investment.
