The Center's primary committees and councils are shown by the chart below.
The Executive Committee is the main decision-making body of the Center for Transportation Studies. It has primary responsibility for providing strategic direction to staff and overseeing implementation of the Center's programs. It governs the operations of the Center, consistent with University of Minnesota policies, based on input from the Board of Advisors, CTS Councils, and CTS staff.
The Board of Advisors provides broad-based leadership support for the Center.
Steering committees and boards are established to direct special funded programs of the Center. These program funds are in addition to the operating and research funds that the Center receives each year. Committees/boards are governing bodies that oversee the tactical implementation of program activities and the expenditure of program funds.
The ITS Institute Board oversees the operations of the Intelligent Transportation Systems Institute, housed within CTS.
Steering committees guide the operations of the Minnesota Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP), the Airport Technical Assistance Program (AirTAP), the Pavement Research Institute, and other programs.
The CTS Councils provide a forum for diverse interests to exchange information on current transportation issues and trends. They bring together University faculty and staff with practitioners from the public and private sectors to recommend direction and participate in improving the Center's research, education, and information/outreach programs.
The Council Coordinating Committee manages the CTS Councils. Four councils support the Center's activities in transportation research, and a fifth council supports educational and outreach efforts:
